Postpartum Care

The 48-72 Hour Visit

Picture
At your first postpartum appointment,  we will see how you and baby are doing and offer the option of doing a heel prick on baby for a metabolic screening called the PKU. We will offer assistance and counseling on breastfeeding and talk about normal feeding and sleeping patterns.  If you are breastfeeding, we discuss the maternal nutritional needs necessary to breastfeed and how to meet them. We will check your fundal height, evaluate baby for tongue ties, and examine your stitches if you experienced any tears during birth.  We will also discuss mental and emotional health during the postpartum period and signs and symptoms of postpartum depression.  Physical recovery time as well as ways to encourage healthy recovery will be discussed. We will do  a follow up via phone call around a week later and if you want a two week postpartum visit, it will be scheduled then.

6 Week Postpartum Visit

Picture
At six weeks postpartum, we will have your last appointment. You'll have space to voice any concerns you may have and room to process your birth. We'll discuss how baby's eating and feeding patterns have been.  We'll discuss sexuality, family planning and birth control. We also offer a PAP smear at this appointment if you need one.
